Baby Blessings

“Being of light where did you come from; being of light how long will you stay?
Your body’s so small, yet your heart knows no boundaries. You’ve come here to earth to lighten my way. I will cherish you now, life’s fruit of mother’s seed. The joy of watching you grow; it opens my eyes to the wonder of life. We are parent and child. Oh my heart opens wide to the love that you send. To this love…to this love…to this love…there’s no end.”
(From the song, Sunship)

There is nothing more joyful than the entrance into the world of a new life. The joy of a birth confronts us with the great mystery. What comes before life? A baby blessing ceremony that honors birth can express this mystery as well as the happiness of the family.

Another custom that has become popular is a ceremony to give the baby its name. This can be celebrated in church or in the home. Whether it be a baptism, baby blessing or naming ceremony, I will help you create the ceremony that will best express your joy as a new parent and the love that you have for your newborn child.

“There are no words for the depth of my love for this child.
I pray for her care and her protection.
Please send angels to bless and surround her always.
May her heart grow strong,
Show me how to love most patiently,
To be there for her most fully.
To understand profoundly who she is and what she needs.
May this family be a blessing unto her now and forever.
May she learn values and principles of love and righteousness.
May she learn from me kindness.
May she learn from me strength.
And thus shall she be free,
To live most fully and love most deeply.
That is my wish
That is my prayer for her and for me forever.”
(Excerpted from Illuminata by Marianne Williamson)

Memorials

“A quickening pulse,
An open door,
A mystery now beckons us.
It whispers,
Fly forth free.
Recast your shame
And now be Proud.”
(From Illuminata by Marianne Williamson)

Death and birth are the great mysteries. No one truly knows where we come from or where we go. So we are left with a recognition, and honoring, of the mystery itself. That, and our own grief. Memorials have a two-fold purpose. They release the soul of the loved one to whatever journey it must take, and they allow the family and friends of the loved one to channel the overwhelming sorrow of losing someone they love. I will help you create a memorial service that will honor the life that has been lived and will bring hope, joy, and peace to those that have loved.
